The Yankees' low level of concern about Joba Chamberlain's injured oblique just got a little higher.
Manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that team doctors in New York were looking over an MRI Chamberlain had on Monday. He last pitched Friday and is on hold until further notice.
"Whenever a pitcher -- or anybody -- is dealing with an oblique, there's always concern," Girardi said. "He's been asymptomatic, but he hasn't thrown . . . It's one thing to feel OK, and it's another thing to go through the [pitching] motion and feel OK." (Newsday)
The Yanks' much-heralded farm system doesn't seem able to produce pitching. The club trades away prospects for over-the-hill veterans, or dumps cash down losing holes. The only sure bets are CC and Phil Hughes. I'm not sold on A.J. Freddie Garcia is a cheap joke, as is Bartolo Colon. As great as Rivera is in the bullpen, he is old. Who's going to carry that torch?
