The apparently have no interest in playing chicken with Derek Jeter.
According to published reports, the Bombers will not offer arbitration to Jeter, not wanting to take the risk that the shortstop would accept and draw a salary up to $25 million for the 2011 season.
The Yankees won't receive any draft picks as compensation if Jeter signs elsewhere, but the team likely believes that its captain will return to the Bronx, leaving little upside in an arbitration offer.
General manager Brian Cashman did not return a phone call on Monday.
The Yankees must decide Tuesday whether to offer arbitration to their six Type A or B free agents. Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte are Type A, meaning an arbitration offer would bring back a first-rounder and a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds if they signed elsewhere. Jeter not in pinstripes?
Not right if it happens.
Not right at all.

Derek Jeter should be the highest paid player on the Yankees, in all of baseball. In this day and time there are not many icons that I would want as a role model for my sons. Derek is a class act on and of the field and is a leader not only for his teamates but for all fans of baseball. How often do you see die hard fathers for other teams allow there kids to be fans of another player thats on another team? When it comes to Jeter all the time. He is not just a player for the Yankees but the captain, a leader, and a spokesperson for them now and well into the future.
Most players in professional sports are over paid these days but how many players like Jeter make there teams money now and well into the future the money that he makes the Yankees. I know that many fans that I talk to will rather go see the yankees in the future at a game that he may be attending or throwing out the first pitch, whatever it is I will we will be there. Does Cliff deserve 23Mil over Jeter he has not done anything for them yet and hopefully does not impload like so many do. What has A-Rod really done on or off the field or for the Yankees on the buisness end? Not as much as Jeter.
Jeter is still a great player defensively and offensively. He just won his 5th gold glove. The milestones he has coming to him. He knows how to win and is a leader for young players. Proffesional teams have paid players heavy for just that.
Lets stop being so greedy and spending money quickly on players that are at the end of there careers and start buiding a team of winning players like Derek that will be winners for Decades. Just cause you sign and over pay for the biggest free agents every year does not gaurantee a world series ring. He deserves more respect then the Yankees are giving him and deserves to be their top paid player.
