Just when you thought A.J. Burnett was on his way out, he pulled his way back in.
Burnett picked up his first win in a month, and ended the talk of him losing his rotation spot for now by beating the A's, 4-3, in front of a crowd of 45,222 at Yankee Stadium.
The $82.5 million man was not dominating, but was not awful, either. Those seem to be the only two ways Burnett pitches, but last night he was just good enough, lasting six innings, allowing three runs and striking out eight to pick up his 10th win of the season. He had not won since July 28 in Cleveland.
The performance should not be seen as a guarantee Burnett has figured out whatever led to a disastrous August when he went 0-4, because the A's are an atrocious team offensively. In fact, the last time Burnett snapped out of funk this season it was in Oakland in early July. (NY Post)
