The AL East unexpectedly got a little deeper last month: The last-place Orioles suddenly are no longer a divisional patsy for the Yankees under new manager Buck Showalter.
The Orioles improved to 20-13 since the former Bombers skipper took over the team on Aug. 3, sending the Yanks to a 4-3 loss Monday at the Stadium. It was the first-place Yanks' second straight defeat following a season-high eight-game winning streak.
"The players are the same, but they've played much better under Buck," Joe Girardi said before the game. "They've played very well, so we are going to see somewhat of a different team."
A.J. Burnett lasted seven innings for the fourth time in six starts, but he lost for the fifth time in six decisions to fall to 10-13 overall. The $82.5 million man gave up four runs on seven hits, while walking four before lefty Boone Logan relieved him to start the eighth. (Daily News)
