The Yankees ace continued to build his case for the AL Cy Young Award with a dominant, one-hit shutout 5-0 victory Thursday to complete a four-game sweep of the A's in front of 46,644 fans.
Sabathia was at his best, mowing through the Oakland lineup as the Yankees cruised to their sixth straight victory and added to their lead over the idle Rays in the AL East. It now stands at 1 ½ games.
If Sabathia continues like this, he'll have to make space on his mantel for his second Cy Young.
"He had no-hit stuff today," said Jorge Posada, who had the best view of Sabathia's pitches.
Sabathia improved his record to 19-5, giving him his best shot at 20 wins in his career. He finished with 19 in 2007 and last year. Now he likely will have five shots at hitting the mark. He went eight innings, allowing the one hit, with five strikeouts and three walks. (NY Post)
