When a team needs a win it doesn't matter that at times it was hard to look at.
The Yankees, who had lost three of four and have gotten hideous performances from spots two through five in their rotation, were counting last night on ace CC Sabathia to straighten their universe out.
No such luck. Sabathia struggled through the first four innings as the White Sox hit his misbehaving change-up for a pair of two-run home runs. While he searched for his groove, however, the Yankees were clubbing balls over walls on the way to a 12-9 victory that was witnessed by a U.S. Cellular Field crowd of 38,811.
"These guys did a great job of keeping us in the game," Sabathia said of the four home runs hit by the Yankees.
Marcus Thames homered twice and Nick Swisher and Eduardo Nunez each hit a two-run shot. It was the first big league homer for Nunez, who went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs.
