Yankees backup catcher Francisco Cervelli left yesterday’s game with a concussion after being hit in the head by Toronto’s Zach Zinicola in the third inning.
Cervelli, who turned 24 yesterday, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a CT scan that, according to the catcher, was negative.
“It was a scary time, but it’s OK. I will rest for a couple of days and be back,” said Cervelli, whose eyes were glassy. “Right now I am dizzy and have a headache.”
Cervelli, who was hit on top of the head toward the back, left side, estimated he has been hit in the head 10 times. Before yesterday the latest incident came in November when he was struck in the same spot as yesterday by a bat while playing winter ball. Cervelli said he suffered a concussion then. Continue
