For one brief moment, the Yankees' entire season flashed before their eyes.
CC Sabathia took a line drive off his chest in the fifth inning, putting a huge scare into the team. But the big southpaw shook it off and finished up another impressive performance, leading the Yankees to a 10-1 win over the Mariners Saturday night and putting the Bombers on the verge of clinching a playoff berth.
"It hit me on my chest, probably the best spot possible," Sabathia said of Franklin Guttierrez's liner back to the mound. "I was stunned a little. I took a couple of deep breaths and knew I was OK."
Sabathia became the AL's first 18-game winner, matching St Louis' Adam Wainwright for the major-league lead. He tossed seven innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks, striking out eight. Continue
