Yankees co-owner Hank Steinbrenner said he likely would attend Alex Rodriguez's news conference today to lend support to his embattled superstar. Steinbrenner's younger brother and co-owner, Hal, offered something probably a lot more valuable:

"He is doing the right thing," Hal Steinbrenner told The Post yesterday from an office in the new Yankee Stadium. "People want to ask questions. We all make mistakes, and he has apologized. I love A Rod and Jeter, the whole team. to stand with their fellow player thru good times and bad, well its more than even my ex and I could promise each other! I wish others had that feeling that you can count on trammates, coworkers, friends and family to help you succeed even in the darkest hours, which all humans experience.
