It's Hughes' turn on the DL
So much for the half-hour Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman spent before last night's game attempting to wave off questions about Phil Hughes by saying he remains in the rotation "right now." The Yankees announced during the seventh inning that they had placed Hughes on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique muscle strain.
Hughes, who Cashman said may miss more than 15 days, said after last night's game that he felt something the day after his start in Chicago a week ago when he woke up, but that it did not hinder him on the mound. But the oblique acted up Tuesday. He left that game after 3 2/3 innings, having allowed six earned runs. Hughes told trainer Gene Monahan of his discomfort then, and things got worse yesterday.
