Andy Pettitte running out of time to make first start
With less than a week until Opening Day, Andy Pettitte's first start of the season is in doubt after the lefty's back continued to bother him for a fifth straight day. Pettitte played catch Monday, something manager Joe Girardi saw as a positive sign, but the pitcher continued to feel tightness across his lower back before and after the session.
It marked the first time Pettitte has thrown since he suffered back spasms last Thursday while driving home from the ballpark. "I felt good enough to go out there and throw," said Pettitte, who made 47 throws at a distance of 60 feet.
