Yankees sign Morgan Ensberg
Morgan Ensberg finished fourth in the National League MVP voting in 2005, helped the Astros reach the World Series and seemed like a slugger on the rise. But his career has tumbled, hurt in part by a 2006 shoulder injury.
Now the Yankees are taking a low-risk chance on him. The Bombers agreed yesterday to a one-year, minor-league deal with Ensberg and gave him a non-roster invitation to spring training, where he will join the crowded first-base mix. Ensberg will compete for playing time with Jason Giambi, Shelley Duncan, Wilson Betemit and perhaps Ensberg's old teammate in Houston and in college at USC, Jason Lane. Continue
